This week in Grade 4 has been so much fun! Here's some information about what we've been up to, and what to expect in the upcoming week.
In Language Arts, we have been busy practicing our roles for literature circles. We have learnt each role, applied our new found skills, and provided feedback to others on their work. Next week, we will begin to pick our books and groups. Literature circles are a great opportunity to collaborate with others, practice our fluency, and encourage great discussion. The Grade 4's are very excited to get started!
In Math, we've started our fractions unit. This week we have been looking at different ways of representing and ordering fractions and built a giant number line to demonstrate our knowledge. Now that we have a solid foundation, we will be moving onto decimals next week.
We have started a new unit on Simple Machines in Science. So far, we have experimented with the force of friction and applied this knowledge to our understanding of inclined planes and rollers. We even got to build our own roller system using any materials we could find at our desks. The Grade 4's had a lot of fun doing this, and we learnt a lot!
We are continuing our research for our Alberta inquiry project, and many students have begun to hand in their project proposals. It's great to see all of our research starting to come together to answer our "big" questions, and to hear all of the amazing and unique presentation ideas. In French, we are creating skits to practice basic conversational phrases. I (Miss Yellowega) am feeling tres bien about the opportunity to practice my own French and learn alongside the students!
